"Do you have the patience to wait until your mud settles and the water is clear?"
—Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching
What happens just after you pivot? Can you sit at the edge of uncertainty—and its ensuing discomfort—and not try to fix it? After two very exciting weeks launching PIVOT, I returned home from a mini book tour and immediately got sucked into The Void.
Although I knew it would come (I even blocked the entire last week off so that I had no meetings), and although I maintained all my mind-body practices leading up to the launch, the Furry Rest Monster still conspired with my couch to swallow me whole for a week. One morning I meditated for 20-minutes—sitting upright, yay!—then immediately tipped over on my couch to go back to sleep. Checking email was too much to handle. I skipped a week on the podcast, and on sending my #PIVOTlist newsletter.
The need for rest was all consuming. I was tired to the bone, and not just physically. It was the vacuum created by the energetic release of three years of hustling on a legacy project that I love. The Void is a natural part of the creative process, and yet surfing it still feels disorienting every time. My mantra for this round: faith in flow. Trusting the natural cycles of building and release, hustle and flow, grit and grace, while listening for what's next.
How else have I been navigating The Void? Listen to this week's episode to find out.
And if you've read the book, please do me a huge favor and leave a rating and/or review on Amazon! I cherish every single one, and they help new readers decide whether to purchase the book among many others with pivot in the title :)
